What Kind of Church Are We?
With so many churches to choose from, why should anyone choose Cornerstone? We make no claim to be better or different from other Bible churches; in fact, our goal is unity not division. We believe that Christianity has suffered long enough from the deep divisions among Christian people. It is our desire that Jesus's prayer for unity become a reality. "That they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us." John 17:21.
The restoration movement of which we are a part began in the early nineteenth century when there was fighting among Christians in the frontier over various religious creeds and beliefs. A group of Christians broke away from denominationalism announcing that they would follow the Bible alone, instead of human creeds. This movement resotred the church to the precedents set by the Church of the New Testament. Over the years many man-made rules, regulations, doctrines and practices have crept into the practice of many churches and we feel that it is time to get back to the teachings of the Bible.
As a New Testament Church we baptize by immersion, observe communion every Sunday, call our leaders "elders", and preach Jesus Christ. We are an independent church. The church chooses it's leaders, support our ministers and work together to decide the direction of the church with God's guidance.
Who Are We?
This question sounds like a simple question to answer, but in the reality of our world, it can be difficult to answer. We believe that this question has a 2 part answer:
Simply put, we are followers of Jesus. We believe the whole of Scripture--Old and New Testaments--is summed up by, "Love God, love people." When someone asked Jesus which commandment was the greatest, He answered, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:34-39)
Everything we do at Cornerstone is intentionally designed to help us love God more intensely and love people more. Such love is simple, yet takes a lifetime to live it out.
We are a church. The church is not a building, an organization, a denomination, or a set of doctrines--the church is something much, much greater.
A local church like Cornerstone is a group of people who are not perfect. Yet we desire to follow Christ with all of our heart, soul and mind. We want to be more than just enthusiastic admirers of Jesus. We want to know God intimately, connect with other followers, and to serve God together.
We gather to worship, to study, to connect with God and one another. It is like a family where God is the head of the family and the members of the church are brothers and sisters around the house.
If you are wondering what kind of church we are--come visit! We have contemporary music, Biblical preaching, a place for the children and a terrific place for your Jr and Sr high students to get connected.
We are people seeking God, just like you.
